Why Germans?

On the surface, the title "Weird Art for Germans" might sound pejorative, possibly nothing more than a reference to the caricature of Germans depicted in the old Saturday Night Live "Sprockets" segments.

The stories at Weird Art for Germans are my "weird" art, meaning art that is weird in the way Americans stereotypically think of Germans as weird:

perverse
modern
unusual fetishes
devoid of religion
unknowable and scary
scarred
associated with genocidal science

I like to think of it as "art for grown ups" or "art for people who no longer believe in Santa Claus."  For me, the word "Germans" was merely a convenient handle for European art-house movies and books and culture as a whole and was intended as a high compliment.

These stories were written for Kafka fans, for people who want the unexpected in art, the journalistic account of how weird the real world actually is.

At least that is what I hope I am doing.  I strive to use plain language to tell simple stories with complex implications.
